It's all done!

Hooray!

I've uploaded all the pages to the server and tested all the links. It's working perfectly. I'm so glad I have finally completed it. Been spending the past two weeks on this project and working on it intensively. And I even managed to finish it a couple of days before the deadline. It's been a real challenge.

On the other hand, this is not the end of my assignments for this module. I still have to submit a project report which is 30% of the overall marks. The website is 60% and this blog is 10%. I will have to start writing the report soon. I'm still not sure what to include in the report. I will need to ask my lecturer this Thursday.

Once this website is submitted on Friday, it's all done!

Almost Done!

Guess what?

I have completed the links! I just realized that I have a total of 93 pages for my website. Wow! That's quite a lot of stuff. But I suppose it's partly due to the directory. There are lots of information to be included from the directory, from businesses, to sports and recreation, clubs and organizations, schools, places of worship, and police information.

Now, all I have to do is to upload the pages to the server. The final step before the web site is completed. :)

Current Progress

I have completed my layouts. Finished inserting the text and images on all the pages. Now i'm only left with the links.

Remember the problem I mentioned in my previous post? I said that my website cannot be viewed in Internet Explorer. Well, it's solved now. Previously the text were invisible in Internet Explorer. As I was exploring Dreamweaver and working on the website, I came across the solution by accident. So now my website can be viewed in both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.

Phew! I'm so relieved.

All right. Back to work now. Got to continue with the progress. Hope to finish it soon - ahead of the deadline.

Local Directory

Hello!


I'm back here to post some updates again!

Currently, I am working on the directory. I have been doing this for the past few days. There are so much information to include. However, I have only chosen to include the businesses, club & organizations that are in Codicote. Those businesses that are around the Parish area and in the surrounding towns can be found in the directory. I have included a note on the page to explain this issue.

On another note, the directory I have is not updated. I tried to search for more information from various search engines and I found out that some of the details in the current copy of directory I have are outdated. The edition that was given to me is the 2006/2007 edition.

I have to search for every business in Codicote with Google and compare it to the ones in the directory. This is taking up much more time than what i have expected. Oh, I even found out that Codicote Butchers have a website. Pretty interesting, huh? Nowadays, even the butchers are using the new media to market their products. How advanced!

Apart from that, the overall progress of my website is pretty good. Thank God everything is going smoothly now.

Free Web Calendar

I have found a free web calendar that gives me easy access to edit the calendars. I embedded it on my web page.

I can easily add events to the calendar and share it with other people.

Inserting Flash

I can't seem to insert a flash file into my Dreamweaver page. I tried to insert media - then flash and click on the swf file but only a 'f' logo appeared.

Did I make any mistake?

Problem #3

My website is now up and running. But I still have lots to do. Only got half of the work done so far.

I have another problem now. The text seems to appear invisible when I view it on Internet Explorer. However, I do not encounter such problem with Firefox.

I'm puzzled.

Problem #2

Greetings!

I've been busy with this web design. Encountered problems rather frequently. I'm still trying to figure out how to get things to work out. One of the problems I have is that my text and images are all aligned to the left when I preview the page on my browser. Basically, I used the 'draw AP div' icon for my text and images in Dreamweaver. However, when I previewed it in Firefox, all the elements on the page are on the left whereas all the elements move to the right when it is previewed in Internet Explorer.

Hence, I've used CSS to set the background images to the center. However, it only works in Firefox. All the elements are still aligned to the left on Internet Explorer. I'm still trying to fix this problem.

On the other hand, I have already created a flash for my header on the home page. I'm in the midst of organizing the other pages. Will update again soon.

Problem #1

I have a problem.

I previewed my template on my browser and this is what appeared:There are white spaces around my background.

The background image is currently set as 'no repeat'. I tried to change it to 'repeat-x' or 'repeat-y' but it turned out to be like the picture below...

Now I'm trying to fix this problem. The size of the image for my template is 900 x 600.

Personally, I prefer the modified version as I think it looks neater. Do you have any suggestions on how I can improve it?

Codicote on YouTube

Research

I was doing some research today. I realized that it is quite hard to get information about Codicote. The existing website has not been updated.

I was searching for the weather forecast for Codicote on BBC weather. Guess what have I found? Nothing. This is what appeared: No locations were found for "codicote". Please try another search term or check the spelling of the location you have entered.

Hmm... This project is going to be challenging - I have to develop a website for the people living in Codicote and the website should contain as much information as possible... but there are limited resources online.

What should I do now?

It is just a general guide of the page structure. I might still tweak the layout.
